There's nothing we enjoy more than a day out in Ontario. Weekends usually find us exploring conservation areas in search of birds and other wildlife. We have spent hours and hours on the trail of a single bird, or waiting at a respectful distance for a bird to make an encore appearance. Ontario's provincial slogan is "Yours To Discover" - and we take that saying to heart, there have been more than 470 species of birds recorded in Ontario, and we've got a ways to go to photograph them all.
Recently, a couple of business associates were visiting from the U.S. After business wound down, discussion moved to more personal subjects. They asked what we did on weekends. We replied, "Usually we shoot birds." One asked, "What do you use." To our reply, "Oh, we use Canon," one replied in amazement, "Boy, you guys must have some big birds up here!"
You'll also find some exotic birds in this gallery. Birds that are, obviously, not native to Ontario. They have been photographed at either wildlife reserves or aviaries in the province.
To make navigation easier, we have broken down species into three categories - Woodland Birds (those species we find mostly in wooded or parkland areas), Shore Birds (those we find around lakes, rivers, marshes, etc.) and Raptors.
